My Testimony

I just finished experiencing a week-long Vacation Bible School (9-11:30 am every day) at an apartment complex in the Spring Branch area of Houston (they even let me help in what they were doing). This is where Daisy Bello of Everlasting Love Ministries holds a Kids Club every Friday to teach the Bible to kids after school. The theme this year was Boomerang Express - a lot of Aussie stuff - G'day Mate and stuff like that - fun!

Every morning we began with some songs, and we got to be pretty good by Friday. We pledged allegiance to the American flag, and then to the Christian flag, and then to the Bible. After some singing and a little competition with "Praise ye the Lord - Alleluia," everyone was off to their individual classes, where eager teachers were awaiting them.

There were different Scripture verses for each of the five days. On the fourth day all of the kids had the opportunity to accept Jesus as their personal Savior, and many did. God was definitely at work. The majority of the kids in attendance were part of Daisy's regular Friday afternoon group, and most of them had already accepted the Lord Jesus as their Savior.

Each age group had a lesson time, a time for a craft project, a recreation time, and a snack time. I got to help with the crafts, and watch all the kids with their various levels of interest in the projects, and their various levels of skills. It was amazing to see the variety of kids God created, and to realize that He wants each one of them to accept Jesus as their personal Savior - God was using the Everlasting Love Ministries and the volunteers to get the good news message out to the kids in a loving manner. Once a child accepts Jesus, they learn how to witness to their family, their friends where they live, and their friends at school. They become a part of one great big evangelistic movement of God!

Some kids were more friendly than others, and some kids were more skilled at crafts than others - but all were experiencing people loving them and telling them about Jesus. And that will definitely change an adult or a kid!

It is always a pleasure to work with volunteers like these, because they are dedicated to the task and you don't have to spend part of your time trying to get them interested. It is a good experience to watch people as God uses them in His work of evangelism - you come away tired, but with a good feeling of having been used by God and having experienced good fellowship with the other volunteers.

The VBS at the apartments was a success because God was glorified, and He was allowed to do His work of bringing children into His kingdom through His Son Jesus. It was a pleasure to participate in this activity - to God be the glory!

In Christ,

Phil
